15,000 Sponsorship Applications Accepted for Canada PGP 2023

If you applied for the PRP program in 2020 but did not receive any revert, 2023 can be your chance to get it approved. Check your emails, as you might have received a revert on the application this year.

Canada has recently announced an update to the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP), refugees, citizenship, and immigration 2023. This year, Canada will send out 24,200 open spots for potential sponsors and accept complete applications from 15,000 applicants.

IRCC will send out these invitations on October 10, 2023. It will be sent to 24,200 people to aim to receive a complete sponsorship application of approximately 15,000 applicants. The primary key takeaway is that instead of opening new interest forms for 24,200 applications, IRCC will send invitations to randomly selected sponsors who applied in 2020 but still need to be chosen.

Approaching the Applicants from the 2020 Pool

You should check the email you supplied in 2020 if you completed a sponsorship interest form in 2020 but did not receive an invitation in 2021 or 2022. If you are invited to apply as part of the 2023 intake, you can still submit your application electronically through the Permanent Residence Portal and the Representative Permanent Residence Portal.

The IRCC requested 23,100 sponsors to submit applications in 2022 to sponsor their parents and grandparents. These invites were sent with the expectation of receiving a sufficient number of applications to reach their goal.

500,000 new immigrants are expected to enter Canada by 2025, according to the country's immigration target. In addition, 36,000 parents and grandparents will be admitted throughout this time.

Claim Your Super Visa for Canadian Citizenship

For Canadian citizens and PR (Permanent Residency) who desire to bring their foreign grandparents and parents to Canada, the Super Visa is a popular choice.

It enables parents and grandparents to live continuously in Canada with their relatives for up to five years without having to renew for visitor status. Holders of Super Visas are also permitted repeated entry into Canada over ten years.

When people want more assurance when sponsoring their parents or grandparents, the Super Visa is an appealing option.

Those who apply for the Super Visa must meet the following requirements:

  • A Canadian citizen or permanent resident's parent or grandparent.
  • Not be barred from entering Canada due to a criminal record or ill health.
  • Substantiate that they can meet the low-income cutoff (LICO) income requirements.
  • Send a signed letter from their child or grandchild inviting them to visit Canada, along with a pledge of support for the duration of the trip and a list of all the family members.
  • A Canadian insurance company must be used as proof of medical insurance for at least a year.
