Associate Degree in Canada

Yes. Unlike some countries, Canada does recognise the Associate Degree as a genuine credential, most commonly offered by colleges and university-colleges in provinces such as British Columbia and Alberta, where it typically represents a 60-credit foundational programme in arts or science.

Tuition for international students generally ranges from CAD 15,000 to CAD 25,000 per year, though this depends on the specific college and province, since Associate Degrees are offered more widely in some regions than others.

An Associate Degree in Canada is typically a two-year, full-time programme, and many are designed so that credits can transfer into the first two years of a related bachelor's degree.

Work rights depend on your immigration status rather than the credential itself. International students on an eligible study permit can work up to 24 hours per week off campus during term time, and graduates may be eligible for a Post-Graduation Work Permit if the programme meets the length and field-of-study requirements.

Most colleges require proof of English proficiency for international applicants, commonly through IELTS or TOEFL, though exact score requirements vary by institution and some accept alternative tests or prior English-medium study as proof.
