M.Sc. Master of Science in Canada

Most Canadian universities ask for a four-year bachelor's degree in a related field with a strong GPA, often the equivalent of a B average or higher, along with proof of English proficiency such as IELTS 6.5 overall (no band below 6.0) or an equivalent TOEFL score. Research-based programs usually also expect a statement of research interest and, in many cases, a supervisor willing to take you on before you are admitted.

Tuition for an MSc typically runs between CAD 12,000 and CAD 35,000 per year for international students, with the exact figure depending heavily on the university, the province, and the specialization. Lab-based and technology-heavy programs, such as computer science or engineering-adjacent MSc degrees, tend to sit at the higher end of that range.

Yes. As long as your study permit carries the right conditions and you are enrolled full-time at a designated learning institution, you can work up to 24 hours per week off campus during academic sessions and full-time during scheduled breaks like the summer term.

Placement outcomes vary by school and cohort, but MSc graduates in computer science, data science, biomedical sciences, and engineering-related fields tend to see strong demand, largely because these areas line up closely with the occupations that show up on federal and provincial in-demand skills lists.

Yes, though Canada does not have one single national award that covers every MSc student the way some countries do. Most funding comes through university-specific entrance scholarships, graduate assistantships, and departmental research funding, so it is worth checking what your target university and department offer directly.
