The IELTS writing section is an important part of the IELTS exam. It checks how well you can express your ideas and thoughts in written English. But do you know what makes this section extremely challenging to most test takers? You are assessed based on thought organisation and coherence. And this is exactly where an IELTS writing task mock test can help you. It will give you a real exam-like experience so that you can practice writing under time pressure. It will also help you learn how to organise your ideas and, most importantly, how to improve your vocabulary and write answers that match the expectations of the examiner.
An IELTS writing mock test is a practice version of the real IELTS writing exam. It simulates the real exam format so that you can get used to the pressure and exam requirements, so that nothing feels new to you. You can try our IELTS writing test mock to experience both task types under realistic exam conditions.
In the IELTS writing test, you have to complete two core tasks. A writing mock test includes both of these and follows the same 60-minute real exam time limit.
The main purpose of our IELTS writing mock test online, free with a score, is practice. It will help you understand how you can manage your time, organise ideas, and write clearly when faced with pressure. You also get a chance to see what types of questions are easy for you and which ones need more work. This includes practicing using our IELTS academic writing mock test for those preparing for the academic module.
The IELTS writing test is created in a way that takes into account your ability to show a wide range of ideas clearly. It also checks how well you can organise your thoughts and use correct grammar and vocabulary in the tasks.
Task 1: Describe Visual Information - In Task 1, you will be given a visual data set, and your job is to describe it. You have to explain the main features of the given visual. Then compare data and lastly summarise it in your own words. For this task, it is best that you spend about 20 minutes completing it and write around 150 words.
Task 2: Write an Essay - You have to write an essay in Task 2 in response to a question or topic. This task carries more weight, which makes it extremely important for you to do it well. The best time management strategy for this task is to get it done in 40 minutes, in around 250 words. You can also practise using our IELTS general writing mock test to improve your skills for the general training module.

IELTS Writing Scoring Criteria Explained
One thing you need to note is that the IELTS writing section does not check your answers solely on grammar and spelling. The examiners use four main scoring criteria to give you an IELTS writing band score from 0 to 9.
Each one of these scoring criteria has equal importance and contributes around 25% to your score. And this is also followed by most of our IELTS mock tests. Also note that even though task 2 carries more weight than task 1 in your final results, both of them are judged using the same criteria.
This mainly focuses on how you have answered the question. And when you practice with an IELTS writing mock test free, you get a better understanding of what the examiner is expecting.
Did you answer the question properly? Did you give your opinion (if needed) and
The next measure will check how well organised your writing is and whether it is easy to follow or not.
This will look at your range of vocabulary in your answer and how well you use it in the content.
The examiner will give you a band score from 0 to 9 for each task for all four criteria. They will then take out an average to get your task score. Your final writing score is then calculated by giving more weight to task 2 (about 66%) and less to task 1 (about 33%).
