Review Your Performance
Analyze insights to improve vocabulary and comprehension.
The PTE Reading section lasts 23–30 minutes and includes around 15–20 questions across 5 task types. There is no per-question timer — you manage your own time across the entire section, which makes time awareness a critical skill to practise.
Negative marking applies to Multiple Choice Multiple Answers — selecting incorrect options reduces your score. Fill in the Blanks carries partial credit with no penalty, and Re-order Paragraphs uses adjacent pair scoring. Knowing these rules before the exam is essential.
Quickly skimming the passage before reading the questions gives you a sense of the structure and helps you locate answers faster and more accurately. Reading every word in full before looking at questions wastes time you need for other tasks.
The Reading & Writing Fill in the Blanks task is an integrated task that contributes to both your Reading and Writing scores simultaneously. This is why it is the single highest-priority task to master in the Reading section.
Your Reading score is based on performance across all task types, plus enabling skills like grammar, vocabulary, and reading comprehension. The overall PTE score is a weighted combination, not a simple average, on a scale of 10–90.
Answering from background knowledge rather than the passage is the most damaging mistake. Options that are factually correct but not supported by the passage are marked wrong train yourself to find every answer in the text, not in your head.
Build your foundations by strengthening academic vocabulary from the Academic Word List, grammar collocations, and reading speed. Reading publications like The Hindu, BBC, or The Guardian daily helps significantly.
